For Boosters and Friends of the PHS Red Pride Marching Band

SATURDAY: QUAKER DAY PARADE & FRANKLIN CENTRAL CONTEST

The PHS Red Pride Marching Band marches in the annual Quaker Day Parade down U.S. 40 on Saturday. Students will dress for the parade at 8:30 a.m. and board buses at 9:15. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. and ends in Franklin Park. Students will be bused back to the high school and dismissed to eat lunch.

Students are expected to be back at the high school by 1 p.m. for a full rehearsal. They’ll need to bring a sack dinner with them.

Parents (including you?) will help us load the trailer at 3:30, and the band will depart for Franklin Central High School. Class B competition will begin around 7:13 p.m., and we’re expected to take the field at about 7:52. Tickets should be $5.00 for adults, students, and senior citizens. The awards program will take place about 10:00 p.m., and we’ll leave for Plainfield at about 10:30. We should arrive about 11:30 and will need everyone’s help to unload the trailer.

(Please help the band members focus by giving them some space. The first contest of the season is always chaotic, and interruptions from parents – however friendly and well-intentioned –only compound the chaos. You’ll be able to visit with the kids after their performance. Thanks for your cooperation!)

 Students will need:

  • water bottle for rehearsal and sack dinner

  • money for concessions at Franklin Central

  • wear band T-shirts and white shorts under uniform

  • polished band shoes with clean black socks

  • clean/polished instrument/equipment

  • no nail polish, make-up, or jewelry

RED PRIDE MARCHING FESTIVAL – SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17

- Eight bands will perform, among them Brownsburg, Terre Haute South, Jasper, Greenwood and New Castle.

- Each family is being asked to donate a 24-pack of bottled water or a cola product – and we'll collect those donations during the week of practice. Please also bring a cooler with a bag of ice on the day of the festival.

- Please plan to stick around after the festival to help with cleanup. All the band members will help with cleanup at the end of the night, and will not be dismissed until their areas pass inspection. The more parents that help, the sooner everyone goes home!

- Participants and volunteers should park in Swinford Park so there's plenty of room for spectator parking at the high school.

WE NEED EVERYONE’S HELP – AND THAT INCLUDES YOU!

If you haven’t already volunteered to help at the festival, contact chairpersons Toby Shutters (tshutters@yahoo.com, 837-8954) or Suzanne Kamel-Mohamed (skamel@clarian.org, 839-1704), or call any of our committee chairs:

 FUNDRAISING UPDATE

In addition to the official band fundraisers – the Fall pizza sale, Winter cheese sale, and Spring Biomat sale – the Band Boosters are holding several fundraisers of our own. Mr. Roberts and the Band Boosters will then be able to pull from the money we raise as needed.

 - TRASH BAGS

We're selling trash bags for $9/roll (white kitchen - 75 bags/roll, yellow yard - 25 bags/roll and XL black yard - 25 bags/roll), and will have booths at home football games, Quaker Day, Marching Festival, Christmas and Spring band concerts. We need help to sell them – contact Bill Bloom at bloomacres@juno.com or 839-4806, or Randi Brinker at rbrinker@kingswayschool.org or 838-7569 (cell 979-0860) for information. Want to order some? Download the order form from our website.

 - SHIRTS & MORE

We have T-shirts, Polo Shirts, Sweatshirts, Flags and Yard Signs available (they also make great gifts for Grandma and Grandpa). Pictures and pricing information are available on the website (http://www.plainfieldbands.org/Merchandise.htm) or call Jeanne Milligan (839-7328, milliganbjmj@sbcglobal.net).

 - BUTTONS

Choose from generic band buttons ($2) and buttons personalized with your student's photo ($4). See samples on the website (http://www.plainfieldbands.org/Merchandise.htm), and contact Tom Shutters (837-8954, tshutters@yahoo.com ) or Randi Brinker (838-7569, rbrinker@kingswayschool.org ) to order. We'll also sell them where we sell trash bags.
