Send it to Scott Flood, our newsletter editor, blast@sfwriting.com. PHS BAND BOOSTER BLAST September 2, 2005 Visit http://PlainfieldBands.org for the most up-to-date information (updated daily). BAND PERFORMANCE AT TONIGHT'S FOOTBALL GAME Come cheer on the band when the Quakers take on Whiteland! The 8th grade band members will team up with the high school band for the national Anthem and the school fight song. Here's the schedule: 4:30 - Dress 5:00 - Rehearsal in uniform 6:10 - Rehearse with 8th grade band for pregame 6:50 - Pregame 7:00 - Game begins Around 7:50 - Halftime performance Students will be in full uniform and are reminded that they will need to have white shorts, band T-shirt (or white t-shirt), and plain black socks. Dressing for the first time usually takes extra time especially for freshman, so be on time. Pit dads will be needed near the end of the first quarter (your help would also be appreciated at the end of rehearsal to move equipment). FESTIVAL BRIEFS - Saturday, September 17 marks the annual Red Pride Marching Festival, and many of the state's top bands will be there. Among the bands that will perform are Brownsburg, Terre Haute South, Jasper, Greenwood and New Castle. - Debbie Exner needs help RIGHT NOW to arrange food donations from local merchants to ensure that our judges, visiting band directors and volunteers are well-fed. If you can help, call Debbie at 839-8342. - Around Labor Day, Suzanne and Toby will call band and guard parents to ask for volunteer time and donations of food. We'll ask each family to donate a 24-pack of bottled water or a cola product – and we'll collect those donations during the week of practice (details to come). We also hope everyone can bring a cooler with a bag of ice on the day of the festival. - Please plan to stick around after the festival to help with cleanup. All the band members will help with cleanup at the end of the night, and will not be dismissed until their areas pass inspection. The more parents that help, the sooner everyone goes home! - Festival workers and band members should park in Swinford Park so there's plenty of room for spectator parking at the high school. Want to help? Contact chairpersons Toby Shutters (tshutters@yahoo.com, 837-8954) or Suzanne Kamel-Mohamed (skamel@clarian.org, 839-1704), or call any of our committee chairs: Information Tent Abigail Baker 839-8160 Video Jim Kidd 839-2252 Judges Val Walker 838-0430 Guides Bob/Jeanne Milligan 839-7328 Tickets Lori Morrison 839-8223 Field Timer Ken Walker 838-0430 Hospitality Room Laura Maxwell 839-5593 Warm Up Timer John & Peggy Seprodi 839-5133 Bus Drivers Hospitality Room Daisa Bedwell 838-5201 Entrance Gate Dan Morrison 838-8223 Bus Parking Jim Exner 839-8342 Spectator Parking Ken Thompson 839-1654 Concession Janice Kidwell 839-6911 Water Table Claudia Sproull (PHS Octagon Club) 839-7711 Signs Kathy Baker 838-0681 Critique Room Kurt Baker 839-8160 FUNDRAISING CHANGES Because of state stipulations, students are only allowed to participate in school-approved fundraisers. For the band these include the Fall pizza sale, Winter cheese sale, and Spring Biomat sale. All of this information comes home via Mr. Roberts. The proceeds of these sales go to support the Band Program and the students can earn money toward their travel accounts. This year's other fundraisers also support the band program, but are totally Booster/Parent-driven – so parents have to handle the sales and promotion, rather than the kids. A portion of the profits will be put into a general "Travel" fund and a general "Uniform" fund, rather than to personal travel accounts. Mr. Roberts and the Band Boosters will then be able to pull from these funds as needed. We have several fundraisers underway: - TRASH BAGS We're selling trash bags for $9/roll (white kitchen - 75 bags/roll, yellow yard - 25 bags/roll and XL black yard - 25 bags/roll), and will have booths at home football games, Quaker Days, Marching Festival, Christmas and Spring band concerts. We need help to sell them – contact Bill Bloom at bloomacres@juno.com or 839-4806, or Randi Brinker at rbrinker@kingswayschool.org or 838-7569 (cell 979-0860) for information. Want to order some? Download the order form from our website. - SHIRTS & MORE We have T-shirts, Polo Shirts, Sweatshirts, Flags and Yard Signs available (they also make great gifts for Grandma and Grandpa). Pictures and pricing information are available on the website (http://www.plainfieldbands.org/Merchandise.htm) or call Jeanne Milligan (839-7328, milliganbjmj@sbcglobal.net). - BUTTONS Choose from generic band buttons ($2) and buttons personalized with your student's photo ($4). See samples on the website (http://www.plainfieldbands.org/Merchandise.htm), and contact Tom Shutters (837-8954, tshutters@yahoo.com ) or Randi Brinker (838-7569, rbrinker@kingswayschool.org ) to order. We'll also sell them where we sell trash bags. GUARD JACKETS AVAILABLE If your daughter is new to guard, you'll probably want to order a new wind jacket with the Quaker emblem and embroidered names. The girls wear them to and from competitions, and while they're at the competitions. The cost is $70 (checks payable to County West Sports). If you have questions, contact Toby Shutters at 837-8954.
