Send it to Scott Flood, our newsletter editor, blast@sfwriting.com. PHS BAND BOOSTER BLAST August 26 2005 For Boosters and Friends of the PHS Red Pride Marching Band August 26, 2005 Visit http://PlainfieldBands.org for the most up-to-date information (updated daily). FROM THE PRESIDENT: KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB! By Suzanne Kamel-Mohamed As the season progresess and the workload increases, I see that everyone is more determined to carry more and to do more. What a wonderful group, what wonderful parents, what a wonderful family. Yes, we are a band family that works hard together unselfishly. You can see that attitude is reflecting on our band kids. They are working their hardest with no complaints and are helping each other tremendously. Above all, they are having a great time and fun. Thank you parents for all what you have done so far, and
what are you doing now! We’re having a work day for pit carts and the semi-trailer on Saturday, August 27 from about 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll address these needs: 1. Reconfigure racks inside of trailer ANNUAL PIZZA SALE UNDERWAY This week, students received brochures and sales forms for the annual Pizza Sale fundraiser. In past years, we’ve had great success selling delicious pizzas, desserts and cookie dough from Club’s Choice Fundraising. The band program uses the profits for equipment and related needs. Order forms must be turned in by Monday, August 29, and all items will be delivered to the PHS Band Room on Thursday, September 8 at 2:45 p.m. Band members don’t have to collect payments (checks payable to Plainfield HS Band) until products are delivered. (If your son or daughter rides the bus home, you may want to make alternate travel arrangements that day!) There will be a couple great incentives. First, students who sell 15 items or more will be entered in a drawing for one of three $25 cash prizes. The top seller of all will win a digital binocular camera. We’ll also have a team competition, with the winning team earning a dinner. Your student has all the details. FESTIVAL BRIEFS - Saturday, September 17 marks the annual Red Pride Marching Festival, and many of the state’s top bands will be there. Among the bands that will perform are Brownsburg, Terre Haute South, Northview, Jasper, Greenwood and New Castle. - Around Labor Day, Suzanne and Toby will call band and guard parents to ask for volunteer time and donations of food. We’ll ask each family to donate a 24-pack of bottled water or a cola product – and we’ll collect those donations during the week of practice (details to come). We also hope everyone can bring a cooler with a bag of ice on the day of the festival. - Debbie Exner needs help this week and next arranging food donations from local merchants to ensure that our judges, visiting band directors and volunteers are well-fed. If you can help, call Debbie at 839-8342. - Please plan to stick around after the festival to help with cleanup. All the band members will help with cleanup at the end of the night, and will not be dismissed until their areas pass inspection. The more parents that help, the sooner everyone goes home! - Festival workers and band members should park in Swinford Park so there’s plenty of room for spectator parking at the high school.
